What are Complete Dentures?

Complete dentures could be either "immediate" or "conventional". Complete dentures are made after all the teeth has been removed and the healing processes of the gum tissue started.

Immediate dentures are made ahead of and can be placed in the mouth as soon as the teeth has been removed. This is for the patient does not have to go without teeth while their gums heal. There is a down side to having immediate dentures, because of the gums and bones changing (shrinking) doing the healing process, the dentures have to be adjusted more to make sure they will fit the patient properly during the healing process. If the patient does not have the immediate dentures adjusted, then it could cause more problems in the mouth and there might be a chance that the gum tissue will not heal properly.

Conventional dentures is made after all the teeth has been removed. They are ready to be placed in the patients mouth between eight (8) to twelve (12) weeks after the teen has been removed. The patient might have to go see the dentist a couple of times to make small adjustments but otherwise the dentures are good until the patients mouth changes and then the dentures has to go be relined, re based or replaced. This usually doesn't have to happen for maximum three (3) years. After three (3) years and you still have no problems with your dentures, still go and see the dentist to make adjustments because you may no think the dentures has to relined or re base, they still need to be checked to make sure everything is still ok with them.

It is possible to get both the immediate and the conventional. While your gum tissue is healin you can receive the immediate dentures and after your gum tissue has healed you can receive the conventional.
